CURRENT AFFAIRS OF  3rd MARCH, 2023

  1. Every year on 3 March, United Nations World Wildlife Day is celebrated all over the world to raise awareness about the world’s wild fauna and flora. 3 March, 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of adoption of the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora). World Wildlife Day 2023 is celebrated under the theme “Partnerships for wildlife conservation”.  
  2. World Hearing Day is annually observed across the globe on 3 March to raise awareness regarding hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care across the globe, and call for action to address hearing loss and related issues. The theme of 2023 is “Ear and hearing care for all! Let’s make it a reality”. 
  3. The Indian Government on 28 February, 2023 approved its largest-ever hydropower project in the mountainous northeastern region of Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China - Dibang Multipurpose Project.
  4. World’s longest river cruise MV Ganga Vilas successfully completed its maiden journey at Bogibeel in Dibrugarh, on 28 February, 2023.
  5. Central Bureau of Communication, Goa organized a multimedia exhibition on International Year of Millets in Panaji on 28 February, 2023.
  6. According to a report published by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), Karnataka and Gujarat have made maximum progress towards clean electricity transition.
  7. The Union Cabinet approved the procurement of 70 HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft for the Indian Air Force from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). 
  8. Senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Rajesh Malhotra has assumed the charge of Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB). 
  9. The G20 Meeting of the Anti Corruption Working Group held in Gurugram, Haryana from 1-3 March, 2023.
  10. Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister M.U.M Ali Sabry attended the eighth edition of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi from 2-4 March, 2023.
  11. Nigerian electoral officials announced on 1 March, 2023 that the ruling party’s candidate in the presidential election, Bola Tinubu, has been elected as the country’s new President.
  12. On 27 February 2023, Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance (ABSLI), the life insurance subsidiary of Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL), has launched a new-age savings solution ABSLI Nishchit Aayush Plan, which aims to provide financial security to policyholders while also providing long-term savings benefits.
  13. The Irinjadappilly Sree Krishna Temple in Kerala’s Thrissur district has become the first in the country to use a mechanical, lifelike elephant for temple rituals. The temple priests performed ‘Nadayiruthal’ or ceremonial offering to the deity, of Irinjadappilly Raman, a magnificent, lifelike mechanical or robotic elephant.
  14. Aizawl will host the second of the four scheduled B20 India events in the northeast from 1-3 March, 2023.
  15. Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp Ltd (IRCTC) and HDFC Bank, announced the launch of a co-branded travel credit card. The newly launched co-branded card named IRCTC HDFC Bank Credit Card, is available exclusively on NPCI’s Rupay network.
  16. On 2 March 2023, Aziz Mushabber Ahmadi (A M Ahmadi), a former Chief Justice of India, passed away in New Delhi, at the age of 90.
